Flowers

View this Collection

My attention span is short. I constantly find myself discovering new things to explore in my paintings. Examining something on a large scale allows us to discover the complexity of a seemingly simple subject, such as a flower. The large scale gives me freedom of motion and room to move. It allows the viewer to stand back or walk right up and study each brush stroke and every detail.

Colored Pencil Paintings

View this Collection

I recently picked up my colored pencils again and quickly remembered why I enjoy this medium so much. It allows maximum control and intense, rich colors. I love it when someone comes up to one of my paintings and says, "Wow, this is colored pencil?" These are labor intense paintings that can easily take an hour for every square inch. I'm finding I really like that these slow me way down and I am enjoying to process of creating no matter how long it takes. It's the process, stupid!

Raven Art

View this Collection

I have recently fallen in love with ravens.  I've been drawing them, sculpting them and even writing children's stories about them. They are messengers of transition and change and that, along with their beauty and intellegence, really appeals to me. This vibrant series of ravens is painted in colored pencil directly on top of a high quality print of my other  original paintings.

Evening Clouds

These paintings explore the glorious colors created in the evening clouds of summer. Several are large scale, allowing for a close-up viewing of these natural wonders.

Goddess Sculptures

View this Collection

These goddess sculptures are shaped free-hand after the clay is pulled through a large bore extruder. After an initial firing, some are purposely broken and each piece is barrel-fired separately in seaweed, cedar chips and newspaper to create the beautiful coloring you see. One piece is held back and glazed to give each a splash of color. These sculptures represent women in all their natural beauty-pregnant, voluptuous, skinny, in other words, perfect!

Encaustic Paintings

View this Collection

These melted wax or "Encaustic" paintings are created using only a heat gun and Crayola Crayons. Don't be fooled, these vibrant and dynamic paintings are permanent works of art where every square inch is its own microcosm of beauty. Each requires hours of work, layering of dozens of crayons in just the right combination to create these one-of-a-kind paintings. Most of these are sold, but there are many more available at Dragonfly Fine Art Studio.
